Astrid Jimenez | Alumni Spotlight Class of 2019

My name is Astrid Jiménez, I was born in the Dominican Republic, so English is my second language. I think one of the things that make me unique is the way I present myself because I always keep true to who I am no matter what.

I went to Hostos from 6-12th grade. I was class of 2019. Honestly, I knew about the early college opportunity since elementary school. And I did not want to let an opportunity like this slip by me. After I graduated from Hostos I continued my education and went to a four year college.

I’m now working towards a bachelors in science, exercise science.

The Hostos early college program definitely prepared me for college, I took the program very serious which helped me when I started Lehman in the Fall of 2019. How? Well I was confident enough to approach professors and other students. I want to be able to help, I want to be able to be there for patients and people in general. I actually love helping and knowing that I can make a difference for someone. I initially decided to major in exercise science because I wanted to be a physical therapist but that changed once I heard about another area of interesting(Diagnostic medical imager) it’s important to me because it will definitely help me later on in my career. This is something that I want to be do and be happy with.

One of my proudest moments at Hostos was learning to stand up for myself at all cost. Learning that there will be some people, some teachers, who will be there to guide you and protect your peace of mind. Also, being captain of the softball team and winning MVP. So far, my biggest accomplishment has been not giving up during these awful times. I have definitely thought about it, but it’s not an option.

One of the many things that I am looking forward towards my future is having my own home and comfort. My own space to simply live a good tranquile life. I want to encourage you to continue, keep going. You’re taking a step closer to your goals. You also need to be able to provide for yourself, have something like your profession to rely on.
